What the World Needs

What is it that makes you come alive? What causes time to stand still in that moment when nothing else matters? Are you living? Laughing? Loving? Maybe you are creating, teaching, or learning?

Whatever it is that brings you the most joy – do that.

Forget about what you think the world needs. Don’t try to mould yourself to fit into a box of what you believe is expected of you. What the world needs is your joy. Be the joyful, loving soul that you are, and then share yourself with the world.

Today, follow your bliss. Know that we can best serve others when we spend time each day doing the things we love.

The Beauty of Your dreams

In the pursuit of my dreams I was once challenged with; “What if you fail, Hayley?” My response was the same truth I tell the children I teach; “There are no failures. Only lessons. FAIL stands for First Attempt In Learning.”

If things don’t work out, we can grow from the experience and apply the lessons moving forward. Failure is simply an opportunity for growth and expansion.

On your path to freedom and fulfilment, don’t let small minds convince you that your dreams are too big. There have been moments in my life when the stars have not aligned, but I truly believe that if circumstances don’t work out it’s because a far greater opportunity awaits us or there is more wisdom to be gained. Divine timing is at work in each our lives, so trust in the process of life itself. Believe in the beauty of your dreams and never lose sight of them in the face of adversity.

Your dreams are real. So go after them.

Trust In Yourself

Self-doubt. We all experience it. We’ve all succumbed to that nagging voice of, “I’m not good enough, worthy enough, deserving enough… Who am I to shine? Why would anyone listen to me? I’ll just play small rather than make a fool of myself….”

But as Marianne Williamson reminds us:

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be?’

Last week I threw caution to the wind and created a video entry for the Writers Workshop Sydney competition, where I’ll have the opportunity to submit a book proposal if I receive enough votes to attend. I waited two weeks before uploading a video. I was stunted by self-doubt. Some of the thoughts that ran through my head were:

“There are some entries who already have 500 votes…I don’t even have 500 followers! How will I ever obtain that many votes?”

“I entered the competition last year online and my book wasn’t selected then, why would it be selected this time?”

“You’re going to look very silly, Hayley…just leave it up to those who can do it well…”

“I’ve entered far too late anyway, the competition has been running for two weeks, I should have done it at the start…Too late. Why bother?”

I had to dig deep. I had to silence that nagging voice of self-doubt. I had to trust in myself. Every ounce of my being tells me: “Hayley, you came here to teach, and to write. And if it doesn’t happen this time, it will happen at the right time. Keep the faith.”

Our dreams come from the same Divine energy that created us. Our dreams are real. We must trust in ourselves, and go after them. Whatever your wish, whatever you feel called upon to do – throw caution to the wind and go for it. It’s ok to be vulnerable. It’s ok to fail. But don’t let fear of failure or judgement get in the way of your dreams.

Here’s to believing in yourself and going after your dreams. Trust in yourself and know that when you do, ‘you are trusting in the same wisdom that created you.’ – Wayne Dyer.

Perspective

Dr. Wayne Dyer’s quote may seem like a clever play on words, yet scientific evidence has proven that when we observe circumstances, we literally change their outcome. Scientists of quantum physics discovered that the mere act of paying attention to events alters the course of reality.  This means that the power of perspective is synonymous with that old cliché; ‘Is the cup half empty or half full?’

Albert Einstein stated:

The most important decision we make is whether we believe we live in a friendly or hostile universe.

When things aren’t going our way, a simple shift in perspective has the power to change our circumstances for the better. When we choose thoughts of abundance over lack and scarcity, when we choose to see the good in people instead of their flaws, we begin to experience a friendlier universe instead of a hostile one.

There are days when our focus is stuck on what’s wrong with life, and sure enough, we experience more of that; we receive a parking fine, the lights are all red, the money doesn’t show up, conflicts arise… And there are days when we recognise what’s right with life, and sure enough, Life rewards us with more abundance; we feel more love, we receive an unexpected bonus, strangers smile at us in the street, the lights are all green…

Where your focus goes, energy flows.

Today, when faced with unexpected set backs or challenges, when you feel yourself focusing on lack instead of abundance, on the faults of others instead of their strengths – ask yourself: How can I see this differently?

The Body’s Whispers

listen to your body

There are countless scientific studies that prove the mind body connection exists. The mind and body send subtle messages to one another, and when one shows signs of imbalance, the other soon suffers.

This week I was reminded of that truth when I chose to ignore my body’s whispers. What started as a sore throat soon escalated into an infection and a complete loss of my voice. My protests of “…just one more day of work won’t harm…I’ll just go and visit these friends… I’ll be fine…” caused my body to scream. And it worked. I have been silenced into submission. Literally.

For some, however, dismissing the body’s signals results in far worse than a sore throat. Which is why it is vital we listen to it’s subtle cues. Maintaining a healthy mind and body are key to living a wholesome life – you cannot have one without the other. All illness and disease results from resisting the flow of life in some area. Once we recognise this, dis-ease becomes our teacher, pointing the way towards greater healing.

In adopting a holistic approach to health and wellness, we begin to heal our lives from the inside out – body, mind and spirit. Where in your life are you experiencing imbalance? Diet? Lifestyle choices? Repetitive thinking and behaviour patterns? What are you holding onto/refusing to let go of?

Today, hear your body’s whispers. It speaks to you of loving truth and wisdom – so listen.

Soulful Sunday #25: Yesterday’s Sorrows

Welcome to my twenty-fifth instalment of ‘Soulful Sundays’. A weekly share where I post a roundup of soulful reflections, each including recipes, songs, quotes, blogs I have read and/or any other inspirational discoveries to sooth the soul.

For me, Sunday’s have become a day of quiet contemplation and simple pleasures. A time to reflect on the week gone by and to consider my hopes and dreams for the week ahead.

My hope is to extend some love outward and to share some simple pleasures with anyone who cares to receive them.

Soul Reflections

I cannot stress enough the importance of beginning each new day afresh. Yesterday has been and gone. We cannot undo what has already been done, but we can bless yesterdays lessons with love, and embrace the joy of a new day.

When we drag our past forward into the present, we feel heavy with yesterday’s sorrows. After a while, the accumulation of upsets becomes too burdensome to bear. We must be willing to let go of the notion that things could have been any different. Accept that things were precisely as they needed to be, for those were the lessons we needed to acquire in order to move forward.

Let go. Free yourself from yesterdays sorrows and release the past. Don’t hold yourself hostage to it for a moment longer. Know that you did the best you could with the knowledge you had in that moment, and the same is true of others. Forgive and move on. Today is a new day, with fresh hopes, dreams and joys waiting to be discovered.

Soul Strolls

Since moving house recently, I have yet to discover a local park that is large enough to enjoy a good stroll. The hunt will continue. In the meantime, I took to the streets, but there is beauty to be discovered all around if our eyes are open to it. I captured these cute we flowers in someone’s front garden. Pretty and pink, to brighten these darker evenings in Melbourne.

Soul Food

I have been under the weather lately, and am in need of comforting foods which offer a good source of nutrients to support my health. So I am sharing this delicious Peppermint Chocolate Mousse by one of my favourite health and wellness bloggers, Alice at The Whole Daily. I use DoTerra Essential oils for their therapeutic, organic healing qualities.. This mousse can also be made using orange essential oils! Yum!

Breathe.

Today, I noticed a six year old boy distressed and crying. He’d gotten into a fight with his friend and was quite shaken by the event. I sat beside him and reminded him to breathe. I’d taught him yoga and mindfulness last year and together, we pretended we had balloons in our tummies. We filled them with air as we breathed in, and then let go a little more each time we breathed out. As we sat breathing together, I felt my own worries subside a little. Within seconds, he’d stopped crying. We smiled at each other. Little did he know, that I needed to breathe just as much as he did…

Later, I noticed he was alone. He was making something using card and sticky tape. I asked what it was. ‘It has special powers,’ he replied. ‘This button, when pressed, creates a protective shield around you.’ He pointed out a little scribble he’d marked on the card. ‘But this button here is the most powerful…’
‘What does it do?’ I asked.
‘It helps you to stay calm,’ he said.

Even at the age of six, this young wee soul understood the power of remaining calm.

We are each faced with adversities. There are things that happen to us in life that are beyond our control – events that we can’t stop or change. This can be difficult to accept. At times, we’re not even aware of why we feel sad or anxious. We just do. But it’s ok to not feel ok all of the time, so long as we don’t get stuck there for too long.

Today, be gentle on yourself. Sometimes it’s ok if the only thing you did today was breathe. Take it day by day, and trust that everything will be ok.
