The Time is Now

to-everything-there-is-a-purpose
Nothing is promised. Not even time. The only thing we ever really have is Now – this moment. This may account for all of the grasping and scrambling and frantic worrying we do in our lives. We fear we have no time. But that never serves to get us ahead. Quite the opposite. It only robs us of the only time we’ll ever have – the present.

When we try to do or have it all at once, we soon lose momentum. So take your time and breathe. It is what we do Now that counts. How fully immersed are we in this moment? When out having coffee with friend, are we delighting in the exchange or thinking of the lawns that need mowing at home?  When we are mowing the lawns, are we savouring the scent of the freshly cut grass or wishing we were out having a coffee with a friend?  Too often we are distracted from what we are doing and wishing our time away on thoughts of next next next.

Slow down. Know that you have time. Trust that it is alright to advance towards your dreams at a gentler pace, that supportive doors will open for you when you surrender control to what is. Let go. Refrain from trying to control outcomes or attempting to do everything at once. Instead, choose one thing to do and do it well. Yes – it is important we dedicate time to working on our dreams, yet we must also balance this with time for play and laughter, alone time, as well as time spent with loved ones and friends.

Today, breathe and enjoy the moment. Have faith that there is ‘a time to every purpose under the heaven.’

Let Go

surrender-to-what-is
How sweet life is when we are connected to our Truth, when we are in the flow as apposed to paddling upstream with a single oar. To let go of that oar and trust in a greater power is to trust in life itself; it is to feel pure immeasurable truth and joy.

The illusions we create of a future that will surely reward us with all the happiness we seek, only rob us of our happiest moments yet, which, in truth, are always Now.

Today, let go of all your ideals of what life should be like, of what you need in order to feel happy. Trust that you can feel pure, simple bliss in this moment. Striving for a better future only serves to pull us from our perfect present. So breathe, smile, know that everything is working out for you in just the way it is supposed to; the beautiful, the boring, the amplified and the mundane.

All is divinely timed and precisely as it is meant to be.

Soul Sundays #5: Now or Never

fullsizerender

Welcome to my fifth instalment of ‘Soulful Sundays’. A weekly share where I post a roundup of soulful reflections, each including recipes, songs, quotes, blogs I have read and/or any other inspirational discoveries to sooth the soul.

For me, Sunday’s have become a day of quiet contemplation and simple pleasures. A time to reflect on the week gone by and to consider my hopes and dreams for the week ahead.

My hope is to extend some love outward and to share some simple pleasures with anyone who cares to receive them.

Soul Reflections

This week has been a little tough. I have felt overwhelmed. Pulled in different directions. I have been frustrated and blocked creatively.

So easily our vision is pulled from the Now. We are interrupted, or become distracted; and not always by another well meaning person, often it can be our own self-sabotaging thoughts that intrude on our peace and sacred space. Despite our best efforts and intentions, if we listen to the voice of procrastination for too long, doubt begins to set in. Or we lose focus entirely, abandoning our project on the grounds that ‘now is not a good time to be creative.’ But Now is the only time.

Who are we kidding when we tell ourselves that we’ll work on it ‘later’ or ‘tomorrow’ or when we have ‘more time’ and the ‘conditions are ripe’?

Every time we tell our selves this – we are ‘cock-blocking’ creativity. And as vulgar as that may sound to some, that is the reality of how vulgar, intrusive and pervasive our self-sabotaging thoughts can be. The endless cycle of perfectionism and procrastination kills creativity and stops it in it’s tracks before it even has chance to gain some forward momentum.

So my advice is to simply begin. Regardless of the conditions, take action. Because worse than a blocked creator, is a frustrated one. And the only way to become unblocked is to oil the instrument and put it in motion.   It doesn’t matter if it’s not great, at least it is something. And so last night, as the rain poured, I penned this little poem. And today, the sun made her appearance.

Rain kisses earth,
Cleansing dense energy.
As energy outside shifts,
Souls inside create their lists.

Sun embraces land,
Birthing new ideas.
As inspiration takes form,
Hearts grow warm; their souls reborn.

Soul Food

Another simple yet tasty dish to share today. When I feel overwhelmed, it’s important I prepare foods that are healthy and simple and quick to prepare. Otherwise, I find myself reaching for ‘quick fixes’ and foods that inflame my body. So here’s a quick Chickpea & Tepenade Salad that is both filling and delicious.

Soul Sounds

I play this meditation track to the children I teach during their relaxation. It is soothing and speaks to the soul. A breath of stillness is certainly what I have needed this week, and so I though I would send a Breath of Stillness your way to soothe your Sunday.

Soulful Strolls

When the sun made an appearance this afternoon, I took advantage and went for a stroll. It was just what I needed to let go of some of the frustrations and blockages that have been holding me back. I captured these beautiful roses in full bloom.

Soul Sisters

Today I am sharing Michelle’s post from Two Are Better Than One, titled You Can’t Hide. Since I often go walking to clear my head and meet with the ‘hopeful whispers’ of encouragement, I resonated a lot. Mosey on over and have a read! I’m sure you’ll find some inspiration on Michelle’s blog too!

A Pause for Thoughts…

So far, my meanderings down memory lane have opened up some old wounds. I have relived painful emotions that I thought were buried long ago – as it goes, they were merely tucked away, hidden beneath the many depths and layers of my existence. One thing I have learnt during this process, is that reliving the pain of the past causes the original emotion, the one that was felt at the time, to resurface, making it all seem very real and raw again. I would be lying if I said I hadn’t cried fresh tears since embarking on this journey through my blog. So why, one might ask, would you put yourself through the trauma all over again? The answer is simple; revisiting the past after a period of healing is, for me at least, a chance to release some of the old hurts surrounding that time in my life – to unearth the tender emotions buried deep within so that I may replace them with meaningful substance. However deep and turbulent these waters seem at times, I know that they eventually lead to a beautiful, tranquil place; a place of freedom and a place of peace.
